‘Chthonic: Weird Tales of Inner Earth’ News

Greetings, Migraineers, and please accept our apologies for the long-ish delay between updates! Were it only possible, we’d plant our eldritch kiesters here in the molten core of MMP HQ permanently and only ever make excellent books for your edutainment and enemafication but as more than a few of you already know, we’re a boutique operation (ie. small, with the time constraints common to that state of being). That being said, part of this update is a bit of less-than-good news…
The publication date of Chthonic: Weird Tales of Inner Earth is going to be delayed a couple of months. The book will now be the first anthology released in 2018. On-sale date will be Tuesday February 20. As with every other MMP anthology, we just want to be able to produce the best possible experience for our readers and our authors.
To that end, we’re happy to officially announce that Chthonic will be the first MMP anthology to feature full page illustrations for six of the stories within! We’ve been working with noted German illustrator Fufu Frauenwahl and the results have been very satisfying. Illustrations are complete for the stories Some Corner of a Dorset Field That Is Forever Arabia by David Stevens, Gemma Files’ The Harrow, John Linwood Grant’s Where All Is Night, and Starless, as well as A Song for Granite Khronos by Aaron Besson, Nadia Bulkin’s Pugelbone, and Ramsey Campbell’s claustrophobic classic The End of a Summer’s Day. Below are clips from each illustration to whet your weird whistle.
So, again, apologies to our readers, our authors. As far as deadlines go, we acknowledge that we bit off more than we could chew with this one. Getting out two books within the same calendar year, especially with the second one coming out at the start of the holiday season, was an unreasonable expectation. A hard realization to come to, but there it is. We hope Chthonic: Weird Tales of Inner Earth will be worth the delay. Thanks for your patience. CHTHONIC Authors and ToC Announcement

The selection process for the next MMP anthology reflected the theme, Migraineers. There was a sensation of compression, a certain claustrophobia to our reading of the (literally teeming, like worms, or molemen!) submissions, a shortness of breath, a distinct impression that time, and air, and light were in short supply. And, like light glimpsed dimly in some noisome cavern world, the stand out tales were instantly attractive, obvious choices. So, we reached out and grasped them, bringing them into our little book of underground terrors and marvels! Here they are, then, the authors and their stories, some well known, some new, as is our custom, and in no particular order as yet. We’ll release the final order of the ToC closer to the on-sale date, which, incidentally, will be 5 December 2017, with pre-orders becoming available a month previous to the on-sale date. Also, please stay tuned to MMP for the next open submissions call for the first of our 2018 anthologies! That announcement before the end of this week. Thanks for reading with Martian Migraine Press!

H. P. Lovecraft is undoubtedly one of the most influential writers of the pulp era, leaving an indelible mark on the last hundred years of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Not only is Lovecraft a central element of genre fiction today, he has ascended to the heights of mainstream literature, thanks to editions of his stories published by the definitive Penguin Classics and Library of America lines.
