Keeping It R’lyeh, One Month In
0Migraineers, we released Scott R Jones‘ When The Stars Are Right: Towards An Authentic R’lyehian Spirituality exactly one month ago. Print and electronic editions. Now, the ebook version, well… there’s an unlimited supply of those, obviously. Photons and code, basically. Same stuff of which the Universe is built: common as muck. But the print editions, constructed of precious inks and the rendered flesh of forest titans? Ah, rare materials indeed. The first print run came to 100 books, a number which we were told was pretty reasonable for a micro-press. A number which (IN OUR NAIVETE) we thought we’d have months and months of casual selling to do before we saw the bottom of the boxes they came in…
Long story short: one month after the release date, When The Stars Are Right is sold out of the print edition. Or almost. We’ve got only 15 copies left here at MMP HQ. Here’s the breakdown of how these weird little tomes flew from our hands…10 copies to contributors, the good folk who wrote advance reviews and blurbs, and Friends of the Show
11 copies in the pre-sale
25 copies regular orders (to Canada, the US, the UK, various spots in Europe)
37 copies at the three nights of book launches in BC (Victoria, Vancouver, and Salt Spring Island)
2 copies to the National Library of Canada for obligatory cataloging purposes
And since we haven’t mentioned it yet… thanks for Keeping It R’lyeh, Migraineers! We’re very pleased with the reception When The Stars Are Right has received so far. You’re all fhtagn in our books.
More updates to come in the next week: WTSAR review round-up, news on Justine G’s Blackstone series AND the second installment in the Lust Larvae books, and a possible new magazine project that’s going to straighten your curlies if we can get our act together enough to make it happen! Stay tuned…
Cover Reveal and ToC for CONQUEROR WOMB!
0Migraineers … it’s time. Time once again for the Annual Martian Migraine Anthology! This years theme: Shub-Niggurath, that most neglected of the Cthulhu Mythos deities. Now, earlier this week (on Facebook and elsewhere) we thought it would be funny to do a gag cover reveal and so posted this high-LAR-ious little number to our page and shared it with a few select Lovecraftiana groups. We were not prepared for the approval ratings we received back from what was, essentially, a prank. So, long story short, we will likely be offering CONQUEROR WOMB: Lusty Tales of Shub-Niggurath with this as an alternate cover, just as soon as we suss out any existing copyright issues for that image. Thanks, Baffling Mysteries #5!
And now… the real CONQUEROR WOMB Cover Reveal! (Totally legit this time, we swear.) We’re extremely pleased to have Scottish comics wunderkind Garry Mac (of Unthank Comics) provide us with this uniquely gonzo rendering of the Monstrous Momma of the Mythos! Shrink before her haughty mein! Tremble at her … things, stickin’ out all over like that there! Huh. Coo adorably at her Dark Young (but try not to let your fingers get too close)! Bow before the Black Goat of the Woods!
You’ll have noticed there are some names on this beautiful thing. So, without further delay, the Table of Contents! Pulsing with some of the best writers working today in Lovecraftian horror (Wilum Pugmire, Molly Tanzer, Brian M. Sammons to name a few!) and mind-bending erotica (Shon Richards, Annabeth Leong, Jacqueline Sweet to name a few more!), plus a host of fresh talent! (Feel quite free to bow before the ToC, too, we won’t mind…)

The Conqueror Womb: Parsing Shub-Niggurath (essay) – Scott R Jones

CONQUEROR WOMB: Lusty Tales of Shub-Niggurath launches in multiple e-storefronts February 10, 2014 (just in time for Valentine’s Day!) but you can pre-order the title directly from MMP until February 9, 2014.
Keepin’ It R’lyeh with a Festive-type Cover Reveal!
0“It was the Yuletide, that men call Christmas though they know in their hearts it is older than Bethlehem and Babylon, older than Memphis and mankind. It was the Yuletide, and I had come at last to the ancient sea town where my people had dwelt and kept festival in the elder time when festival was forbidden; where also they had commanded their sons to keep festival once every century, that the memory of primal secrets might not be forgotten…”
H P Lovecraft, The Festival
Best of the season to you, Migraineers! As the planet tilts toward Solstice, and our sobriety slides south towards more inebriated climes, our hearts and thoughts turn towards matters spiritual, if we’ve that particular bent in our psyches. And we trust that most if not all Migraineers are, indeed, so bent. So bent! To that end, may we present, fresh from the molten graphics forge of the MMP DesignDroid5000, the cover to Scott R Jones’ When The Stars Are Right: Towards An Authentic R’lyehian Spirituality …
Sparkly enough? Gosh, we sure think so. Now, originally we here at MMP HQ were hoping to have When The Stars Are Right available for sale in time for Christmas. Certainly we said as much when we announced the ToC, but due to our overwhelming desire to make this, our first print book, a quality textual interface artifact, we have pushed the release date back to March 2014, with two book launch events in the last week of March, one in Victoria BC on Monday the 24th at a yet-to-be-decided venue, and the other in Vancouver BC on Thursday the 27th at the infamous Storm Crow Tavern.
Which is all to say that, though the physical edition of the book is not yet in existence, the electronic edition IS, and ready for Advance Review Readers. So, if this is the sort of tome that floats your White Ship (nudge-nudge, wink-wink) and you would like to review When The Stars Are Right for your blog, magazine, or podcast, then please contact us at info@martianmigrainepress.com and request a copy. Sharing this post to your facebook, twitter, and other social media pages is also encouraged. We collectively throb with anticipation over here.
Thanks for keepin’ it R’lyeh, Migraineers. Expect more updates over the holidays: free book promos, discounts on some of our most popular titles, a new Lust Larvae book from Justine G, and news about our next (and possibly greatest!) anthology yet… Conqueror Womb!
